Digital display maker ready to extend healthcare reach

Barco may be the digital display maker of choice at Sundance this year--the company's digital cinema projectors have been tapped as the exclusive selection for screening the festival's 3D entry--but now that the Belgium-based manufacturer of display solutions has finalized its acquisition of FIMI, company officials are making plans for healthcare.

Northern Italy-based FIMI, a Philips subsidiary, makes dedicated modality monitors, patient monitoring and mobile point-of-care devices. Under terms of the deal, Barco paid €19 million ($28 million), plus an additional earn-out of €10 million ($15 million) over the next five years.

As DiagnosticImaging.com reports, Barco executives hope that expanding their current display offerings with FIMI products will open new sales opportunities while enhancing the company’s position in the medical display market. FIMI began making monitors in 1977 and has been active in the medical imaging market for over 20 years.
