Improving infant security with RFID

Having relied on the same infant security technology since 2002, Sutter Tracy Community Hospital recently upped its stake in RFID monitoring by installing version 6.0 of RF Technologies’ Safe Place Infant and Pediatric Security Solution.

Officials at the Tracy, Calif.-based hospital, which delivers roughly 775 babies each year, said they wanted to stick with a reliable technology they were familiar with while making the most of recent technological improvements. Version 6.0, which includes touch screen capability, is one of several layers of infant protection the hospital uses to safeguard its newborns.

The Safe Place system is designed to help prevent abduction of infant patients by sounding an alarm and locking all area doors if the baby is moved without authorization. Staff is able to monitor the infants through computer software that alerts them to any attempt to tamper with infant transmitters.

RF Technologies, which boasts an installed base of more than 10,000 systems worldwide, is a provider of integrated RFID safety and security systems, Wi-Fi RTLS systems, and healthcare enterprise solutions.
