A collaboration between Alere Health and mobile medical software developer AirStrip Technologies should go a long way towards extending the reach of AirStrip OB software. Beginning Sept. 1, the new marketing agreement calls for Alere, through its Women & Children's Health division, to begin offering AirStrip OB to its healthcare provider client base in the U.S.
AirStrip OB software is designed to transmit vital patient waveform data, including fetal heart tracing and maternal contraction patterns, in virtual real-time directly from the hospital labor and delivery unit to a doctor's mobile wireless device. In 2009, Alere supported more than 225,000 pregnancies. This deal with AirStrip will enable the largest U.S. provider of specialized health management services to expand into new areas of in-patient and homecare management.
According to Gregg Raybuck, president, Women's & Children's Health, combining AirStripOB with Alere's home nursing network will allow both companies to build on their homecare obstetric services.
Currently in use by obstetricians and hospitals throughout the U.S., AirStrip OB is FDA and HIPAA compliant, and is positioned to rapidly establish a new standard of patient care.
