Dr. Andrew Watson March 5, 2012, 9:09 pm Joe, Without a doubt what you are saying is the combination of science and population based medicine. Agreed, we frequently discuss the "placebo effect", especially in the realm of anti-depressants but little true science tries to link the placebo effect to the science behind it. Or, stated differently, the placebo effect is a catch-all phrase to identify the scientific unknown, much like an "idiopathic" disease means we don't fully understand. This is not ignorance, just the evolution of our understanding which is acceptable and is progress viewed from 39,000 feet. Your definitions and approach are completely correct. We, at the Center for Connected Medicine, support what you are doing and saying. True population management is cloud-based medicine combined with a more fundamental analysis of patients. We are trying to understand both "extremes" of population healthcare, the patient in more detail and the virtual point of care at home or at work (not not in an office).
