Welcome to the modern version of "I've fallen and I can't get up!"
Two California-based mHealth companies have announced a technology solution that alerts caregivers and family members instantaneously of health events tied to a change in vital signs. The solution combines Vital Connect's body sensors, which are worn on the chest or back and continuously record vital signs, with the SecuraFone mobile app developed by SecuraTrac, which connects the sensors to the wearer's smartphone and sends out alerts when the sensors detect unexpected changes.
The SecuraPhone Health app is scheduled for release later this year.
"We are excited about the potential of the SecuraFone Health app. We believe it will revolutionize the mobile health marketplace," said Chris Holbert, CEO of Hermosa Beach, Calif.-based SecuraTrac, in a press release. "Doctors, caregivers and family members will now not only be able to monitor and receive alerts related to the whereabouts of their patients, children or aging parents, but also will receive alerts related to that person's vitals in real-time. The monthly service is tied to a 24/7 emergency response center with trained healthcare staff, and so we expect that our mobile health and safety innovation will greatly reduce response times for those in need of emergency assistance as well as improve the overall care received by the user."
SecuraTrac entered the mobile technology field with GPS location-based SecuraPAL Guardian, a mobile solution for tracking children, and the LifeTrac MobileProtector solution for seniors. In addition, the company offers SecuraChild, a platform that leverages crowdsourcing and social media to help identify and seek out missing children.
"Vital Connect is pleased to announce its collaboration with SecuraTrac on the ground-breaking SecuraFone Health solution," said Bill Brennan, executive vice president of Campbell, Calif.-based Vital Connect, a mobile sensing tech startup that launched last year. "As an integral element of the SecuraFone Health solution, our intelligent wireless biosensor will provide users an unprecedented sense of security while providing doctors, caregivers and loved ones with increased peace of mind."
