Wireless technologies are revolutionizing the way mobile financial services (MFS) are delivered. When coupled with mobile health care, MFS has the potential to facilitate efficient payment for care, extend the reach of care into the home and remote places where under-served populations live throughout the world. MFS allows for payments by phone for populations, lessening the banking digital divide by providing those who traditionally had no bank accounts access to funds and potentially, a new array of healthcare services. mPayments delivered in this manner can significantly improve administrative efficiencies, provide real time information on delivered services that informs both insurance schemes and overall policy and support usability and accessibility – making it easier for people groups to enroll and use healthcare services. As a result, investment is being made to demonstrate the positive attributes of the convergence of MFS and mHealth, including government funded programs, private and venture capital programs, foundations and other investment sources.
