The speed at which technology is advancing currently outpaces the policy discussion on the local, national, and international levels. mHIMSS will educate and inform our members about key mobile and wireless regulatory and legislative issues such as technical guidance, reimbursement, privacy and security, broadband allocation, etc.

MU researchers use gaming technology for elder care September 7, 2011 | Mike Miliard Researchers at the University of Missouri have found that two devices commonly used for video gaming and security systems are effective in detecting the early onset of illness and fall risk in seniors.The Mizzou researchers have long been using motion-sensing technology to monitor changes in the health of residents at TigerPlace, an independent living community in Columbia. In short, the Coalition believes that the FDA has taken a significant step toward the appropriate regulation of mobile health(“mHealth”)3 technologies, but there is more work to be done. While others may suggest that FDA regulation of mobile medical apps and other mHealth products is not appropriate at this time—with some requesting that FDA withdraw its guidance document for further consideration of the impact of regulation on the industry—we believe that clear, predictable, and narrowly-tailored regulation is necessary to ensure patient safety and to promote innovation.  More
