Since its founding in 1855 as the nation's first hospital devoted exclusively to caring for children, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has brought forth many dramatic firsts in pediatric medicine. One example is specialized neonatal care generating global recognition for excellence. Wireless and mobile technologies – as noted in the following sections – are critical in supporting service delivery within the NICU and across the many departments of CHOP. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has announced that CHOP has earned accreditation as an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). CHOP is the only children’s hospital in the country to earn accreditation and is among the first five organizations to be accredited nationally.
